 Der neue Motor Napier-Sabre, der die Typhoon zum schnellsten Englischen Jagdflugzeug machen sollte, zeigte in größeren Höhen seine Schwächen. So wurde aus der als Jäger geplanten "Tiffy" das Erdkampfunterstützungsflugzeug der RAF - neben ihrem späteren Abkömmling, der Tempest. Um die Typhoon zu verbessern, waren folgende Arbeiten nötig: Wie bereits bei der Typhoon I a beschrieben, war der Airfix-Bausatz großer Schrott. Diesmal ließ ich allerdings die Kanonen stehen, denn ich wollte ja gerade so eine Tiffy zeigen. Das Cockpit wurde selbst gemacht; Instrumentenbrett, Reflexvisier, Steuerknüppel, Panzerplatte, etc. und für diese ursprüngliche Form der Vollsicht-Kanzel habe ich mir aus Gips einen Rohling geformt, um darüber eine Vacu-Kanzel zu ziehen. Obwohl das nun nicht gerade ein erstklassiges Stück geworden ist, habe ich meine Freude daran. Ich habe aber noch zwei Bausätze der Typhoon liegen; eine Mk I b Cardoor von MPM und eine Mk I b Bubbletop von Academy. Aber deren Bau wird noch eine Weile dauern. |
 TheThe new engine Napier-Sabre, which ought to make the Typhoon the fastest British Fighter, showed less power than neccessary at higher altitudes. So the "Tiffy", although planned as a new fighter, became the ground-attack-aircraft of the RAF - beneath it's later derivate, the Tempest. To optimize the Typhoon, following works were necessary: As already told in the article about the Typhoon I a, the Airfix-kit was a real scrap. This time I kept the cannons, because just this was, which Tiffy I wanted to show. The interior of the cockpit is scratchbuilt; the instrument-panel, the gun-sight, the control-column, the pilot's armor-plate, etc. and in order to show the initial form of the round-vison-canopy, I moulded a plaster cast about which the vacu-canopy was made. Although this kit became not such a first-class model, I'm rather pleased about it. But I still have two ohter kits of the Typhoon; one a Mk Ib Cardoor by MPM and the other one a Mk I b Bubbletop by Academy. But their being built will still last some time. |
