Matchbox De Havilland Mosquito NF 30

- T -

To backdate the Matchbox kit into a Mosquito B IX following works were necessary:
First of all is to say, all Matchbox-kits are wonderful in fitting, measures, and so on. The interior of the Matchbox' - just in 1/72 - is nearly not existing. So there is very much to do, scratchbuilding the cockpit-interior. A new canopy must be vacuformed; the Matchbox-part is too ugly.
The most important alteration is the big belly. The B IX's had the business to carry special bomb-loads, so they got a special compartment - the big belly. In fact, it was not easy to get this one - I had to search all over the world to find it. Finally, a friend of mine discovered an update-set in the USA. It was a resin-part, not so cheap, and fitted perfect.
The cockpit is cratchbuilt - and one special part took all my attention - the entry-hatch. I succeeded in building it movable, i built the hinges out of the rest of foto-etched metal-sheets, and all was fine. But I was unlucky in further work - the third time, the hatch was broken away during progress of works, it was not more possible to repair it. So I had to glue it to the fuselage - sorry.
Painting was not so hard, the usual colours were fine. The squadron-letters are paintbrushed by making a stencil. By the way ... the "blue" parts in the camouflage are shadows, no special effects. My skill in building models is much better than in taking pictures.
In summary, a rare model completing my collection.
